newborn must haves

I used Babylist.com for our registry because I loved that I could add items from all different stores (including Etsy) to one place. I also recommend getting the Welcome Box from Babylist.

I also utilized Babylist’s articles when deciding between different products. They have a lot of great information where they compare the same baby item across different brands and price points. These articles really helped me figure out what items to splurge on and which ones to save on. It is also easier to use articles like this when comparing items that can have a lot of different features/benefits to them, like strollers and car seats.

Here are a few of our favorite items at the nine week mark:

Halo Bassinet

We actually purchased this item used from Facebook marketplace for around $100 and we are so glad we did! Babies are only in this item for a few months, so we didn’t want to spend a ton of money on this item. The exact model we have is no longer sold, but the one linked is super similar! What I love about this bassinet is that is swivels so you can pull your baby close/away from you easily. I also love how the front wall lowers and that it has breathable sides. Lottie tends to scoot a lot in her sleep, so the breathability has given me peace of mind.

UppaBaby Vista V2

Super pricey, but we have loved this stroller. We decided on the Vista V2 because it can easily be converted into a double stroller. It is only slightly larger and heavier than the Uppababy Cruz (cannot convert for two kids) and I wanted to be able to use this stroller when we have more kids. I chose the color “Declan”, which is like an oat color. We use this stroller for walks around the neighborhood and outings where there would be a lot of walking (the mall, theme parks, etc.).

Doona Stroller/Car seat

Might be one of our very favorite items! This is the only infant car seat we own. It is easy to install with the base or without the base. It transforms from a stroller to a pumpkin seat (the actual carrier the baby sits in that goes in and out of the car and clicks into the base) with just a click of the button. If you do need to carry it for some reason though, it is decently heavy. I use this item as a stroller at doctors appointments or any errand where I just need to run in and out with Lottie. It is also perfect for restaurants because she can be at table height instead of in her carrier on the ground. The only con is that the handle for pushing the stroller is a little low. Since Matt and I are shorter it isn’t bothersome to us, but something to note.

Burp Cloths

Our very favorite burp cloths! They are soft and absorbent. They are also perfect when giving a bath. We lay this cloth across her body to help keep her warm. Then we use a square cloth for the actual bathing.

Clothing

I love the Magnetic Me footies and gowns! I have purchased them off a mom’s group on facebook and also at an upscale baby consignment store. They make diaper changes in the night so easy.

I am obsessed with this modal line at Target. I love them so much that I went ahead and bought them in multiple sizes. I have the onesies and the footies. They are super soft and run big. They have a two way zipper as well which is great to keep baby warm while changing them.

My favorite hack for baby cloths has been buying them through Facebook. There are so many resale groups to join and they clothes can be at great prices. Since babies are in each size for such a short amount of time it is hard to justify spending a lot of money on each item. This is a win win because you can still purchase the clothes you want at a fraction of the cost. I have joined name/initial groups where people say clothes that have been monogrammed already. I love the traditional smocked clothing and have a joined a few of those resale groups as well. I have also found a Tampa mom’s group that has a buy/sell page and that has been great too!

Tubby Todd All Over Ointment is incredible for baby acne and eczema.

Wellements Gripe Water has helped a lot with hiccups and relieving gas pains.

Changing Pad

We love this one by Hatch because it has a scale in it and connects to an app on your phone. It is super easy to wipe off and clean when messes happen (and they will!).

Solly Wrap

So good for baby wearing in the first few months! I use this when Lottie just wants to be held and I need to get things done around the house. I also use this whenever I go into a store and need a shopping cart. She obviously cannot sit up in the cart and the car seat carrier is too big to put in the cart. I put her in the wrap so that I can easily shop hands free! This item is also helpful to keep your newborn away from well intended strangers that want to look or touch your babe. It’s a win win: close to mom and away from others!
