I love children’s books! One of the things I was most excited about with having a baby was the fun books we could read together. Growing up, my mom would always let me buy books. The one rule was that she would not buy me a new book until I finished (or almost finished) what I was currently reading. This kept me engaged with my TBR and gave me the motivation to finish what I was reading.
I hope that Lottie will have a love of reading as well. I want to help facilitate it however I can! One of my favorite ways to build her library has been to purchase used books. I have found excellent books at thrift stores and recently had a great haul at a baby consignment store. The owner was running a book promo the week before and still honored the 60% off that I had missed!
I’m not really a germaphobe, but the idea of used kids’ books is a little grimy, even for me. Kids put everything in their mouths, every page is touched, and they probably gather a whole other set of germs from the store. I did some research and learned that putting books in the freezer for 48 hours will kill all of the germs and bacteria. Genius! We have a deep freezer, so I literally just dump the stack of books into the freezer and they are good to go!
If your books have sticker residue or any markings on them, you can put rubbing alcohol or lemon essential oil on a cotton round and it will take it off. The book is practically new! Elbow grease may be required.
I want Lottie’s bookshelves to be semi-seasonal. I think it would be so fun to have fall/Halloween books up and then switch them out for Christmas. I am definitely keeping my eye out for good seasonal books right now. Here is a list of books that we found this weekend. If you are not up for looking for second-hand books, they are linked on Amazon.

Here are some other children’s books that I have my eye on!

Happy reading!
