TGATG #25

I actually love football. For a girl who is not athletic and super girlie, college football is one of my favorite things about fall (GO GATORS!!!).

I have never been a huge NFL fan though. Growing up, we didn’t have a team we would really root for being from Orlando. Cheering for the Bucs is fun since I live in Tampa now, but it still doesn’t hold a candle to college football.

There is a documentary on Netflix called Quarterback and it follows the 2022-2023 season of Patrick Mahomes, Kirk Cousins, and Marcus Mariota. I love sports documentaries and it really made me love (or not love) the stars of the show. I thought there was a super interesting juxtaposition between Cousins and Mahomes. In the scenes with Mahomes, it is very him-driven. There is a huge emphasis on his wealth and mansion, and he and his wife are always decked out in designers. In almost every scene he uses multiple cuss words. Then the episode will change and it will show Kirk serving people, reading bedtime stories to his sons, and praying.

I really loved watching this eight episode documentary. It made me want to root for Kirk Cousins and the Vikings. I love how once you know a player’s story the games are so much more interesting. It reminds you that they are more than athletes, they are also husbands and fathers. I finished it last night, and I am excited to start the UF documentary called Swamp Kings next.
